Hurting the Middle Class

Across our nation people are talking about the need for employers to lift up working families to strengthen our economy. Here in Pittsburgh, that means talking about UPMC.

In fact, according to a study by Pathways PA, a parent with just one child would need $17.24/hour, or $36,000 a year, to live a modest but decent life.*

When workers speak out about improving their jobs, UPMC management tries to silence them. The regional director of the National Labor Relations Board recently issued a complaint against UPMC citing 59 executives and managers for 80 separate violations of federal labor law.UPMC settled the charges, reinstating fired workers and wiping the records clean of other workers who had been disciplined for organizing a union.

Instead of bullying workers, UPMC should welcome their efforts to improve their lives and improve our economy.
